Common questions that will save us both a round-trip.
What background is helpful for joining the lab as a Ph.D. student?
What matters more is the thoughtfulness of your questions and your willingness to learn. I welcome students from a range of backgrounds, including learning sciences, applied linguistics, HCI/CS, and K–12 teaching.
How do I apply to join the lab as a Ph.D. student?
Although not mandatory, I highly encourage you to reach out by email before applying. Include your CV and a Statement of Purpose that outlines your research interests and explains why MLTI is the right home for your work. Every inquiry is read with care. Can undergraduate students apply to work in the lab?
Yes. If you’re interested, send me a note and we can figure out together whether it’s a good fit.
Can we collaborate on a research project?
We welcome research collaborations, particularly with K-12 STEM educators, learning scientists, AI developers, designers seeking educational applications, and students looking for volunteer research experience. Please reach out with a brief description of what you have in mind.
